The Conservative government is turning to the courts to avoid properly funding First Nations children services on reserves across the country, says New Democrat Aboriginal Affairs Critic Jean Crowder (Nanaimo-Cowichan).
Today, the Conservative government announced it is appealing a Federal Court decision ordering the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal to launch a new tribunal to hear arguments on whether First Nations children in care are discriminated against by lack of funding. This is a bitter blow against for those fighting for better services for some of Canada’s most vulnerable.
